Homeless Shelter

Members of the Rowan Rotary Club serve the Rowan Helping Ministries (RHM) Overnight Shelter. RHM provides many services to the community. One of the critical community services provided by RHM is the overnight shelter for those in need of a place to sleep, eat, shower, and launder their clothes. This service is provided 365 days per year. Local churches and community organizations volunteer to assist with the performance of these services. The Rowan Rotary Club members volunteer to serve 3-4 times each year. Each time, this service includes providing dinner in the evening and breakfast the following morning. The food, all the cooking, and kitchen clean-up is provided by the members of the Rowan Rotary Club. Members also assist with the check-in of the overnight guests into the shelter, and members stay late into the evening to launder the guest’s clothes. Typically the RHM Overnight shelter has 20-40 guests each night. On one occasion, a mother with 5 children was spending their first night in the shelter ---and members of the Rowan Rotary Club were able to provide them with a hot meal and a safe place to sleep. Rowan Rotary Club members develop a close bond, and find it very rewarding to provide this service to the community. This is a great way to get involved in “hands on” service to the community
